Graeme Ashby BVSc, BSc (Hons) MACVS

Graeme is a partner in the practice and joined Kumeu Veterinary Services in 2007 to lead the companion animal side of the practice. He has successfully completed examinations in companion animal internal medicine, gaining membership to the prestigious Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. Graeme has expertise in both medicine and surgery of all companion animals, exotic pets, rabbits and birds.
 
Graeme grew up in Waimauku and now lives just a stones throw from his childhood home with his wife Lizzie, son Cole and dog Pike.

Elke Haag Dr Vet Med

Elke joined Kumeu Veterinary Services in 1996 and currently works part-time in the companion animal side of the practice. She studied veterinary medicine at the Tieraerztliche Hochschule in Hannover and moved to New Zealand in 1993 to complete her post graduate research project. She is currently studying towards a Diploma in Veterinary Homeopathy.

Elke lives on a lifestyle block in Taupaki which she shares with her husband, two girls, several horses, sheep, chickens and her cat Moritz

Tamara Duirs BVSc

Tamara graduated from Massey, Palmerston North in 2007. Tamara is one of our mixed animal vets and especially enjoys alpaca medicine. In her free time she can be found sailing or scuba diving.

She lives in Kumeu with her cat Mika.

Irene van den Berg BVSc

Irene graduated from Palmerston North, Massey in 2008. She enjoys all the aspects of mixed animal practice that the clinic has to offer. In her spare time she enjoys playing the violin, doing karate and is a great enthusiast of the wonderful New Zealand outdoors, especially when accompanied by her two greyhounds Wolfie and Delta.

Mark Young BVSc

Mark is a partner in the practice and works on the equine side of the clinic. He has worked in many diverse places including Gisborne, Matamata and Morocco. Mark is experienced treating all types of horses from the Donkeys and wild Shetland ponies of Marakesh to the more typical Sport horses of New Zealand.

Mark lives in Taupaki and outside of work he can be found scuba diving or fishing in the Coromandel.

David van Zwanenberg BVetMed (Hons) MRCVS

David graduated from London in 2005 and initially worked in mixed practice in Devon in the UK. He is a partner in the practice and is a highly valued member of our equine team. His areas of interest are lameness, reproduction and general surgery. 

David lives in Muriwai with his dog Jasper and outside of work he can usually be found down the beach kitesurfing or when the wind is not blowing wakeboarding.

George
George Soppet BVSc BAppScEq

George is an experienced eventer and integral part of our equine team of vets. She has returned from an internship in the States to her Kiwi homeland. She is keen to get back into the local eventing and showjumping circuits and is currently searching for the perfect horse to fit this role.

Michelle Irwin (Head nurse)

Michelle graduated from Otago Polytech in 1999 and has worked at the clinic since 2003. Over time she has accumulated a large and ever changing fur family including numerous horses, goats, birds, 3 cats and a dog called Indi, who can often be found helping out in reception. Michelle is a level 3 Reiki Practitioner specifically trained for working with animals and finds it rewarding to use Reiki on sick and injured animals.

Outside of work Michelle's interests include horses and photography.

Sandra Hampton

Sandra has been with the clinic since 2004 and qualified from the Auckland Institute of Technology in Vet Nursing in 1997.  Sandra is Head of our Accounts Receivable Department and Equine Nurse. She has a love of all animals large and small.  

Sandra lives in Kumeu with her dog Mick.

Rebecca Carter

Rebecca initially worked part time at the clinic before becoming a full time veterinary nurse in December 2007. She qualified top of her class from Unitec in 2007 with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing along with a certificate in Animal Management and also in Animal Care. Her special interests include Radiology, Surgery and Emergency and Critical Care Work. Rebecca runs the clinic puppy pre-school and is our surgery nurse.

Tracey Mathewson
 

Tracey has worked as a part-time Veterinary Nurse at the clinic since October 2008. She completed her Certificate of Veterinary Nursing at Otago Polytechnic  in December 2009. She enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing especially post-operative after care.

She lives in Kaukapakapa with her dog Maddie and two cats Diesel and Rambo.

Chrissy
Chrissy Strong 
 

Chrissy is our friendly, smiling receptionist and joined the clinic in March 2011 from Veterinary Specialist Group, Carrington Road.  She lives on a lifestyle block in Waimauku with her husband and menagerie of animals, mostly rescues, including a pound puppy Archie and his partner in crime Chippie.
